Wings2 is one of most enjoying multiplayer games i ever played. Simple and Fun. But what about a new version? Using OpenGL will transform the game experience to a new level. That doesn't mean to change the view of the map and the ships, but it means better effects and camera slides, zoom posibility, collision-system, etc... The more it would be the chance to add some features. What about shields and the posibility to transform energy form the front to rear shilds etc... What a about points for shoutups to use them for shipupgrades, weapons und modules (after each multiplayerround) ?
But, never the less, Wings2 is great ;) !!

Wings2 already uses OpenGL, enjoy your game experience on a new level ;)
But yeah, implementing the features you suggested would change the game drastically and personally I really like the simplistic graphics and gameplay Wings2 has right now, and see no need to make it more complicated. Then again, opinions may vary and adding new optional features wouldn't really hurt anybody except maybe Miika, the creator of this game, who has to code all that new stuff.

I really don't like the idea of wings going 3D. Creating maps and weapons would be harder. So, I agree with Zingi, simplistic graphics and gameplay work the best on wings.

I would actually move for 3-D models and effects, superimposing them on a 2-D map (similar to what TOTALA does) so that you can retain the ease of map making but have much more eye candy.

I agree with zingi too, but have you thought that if wings would become more complicated and nicelooking, people with really slow computers couldnt play that easily and in fast computers too the could be really laggy when using 1000% mode.
